Renewable Taos, Inc. is a multi-purpose, multifunctional, non-partisan 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to the rapid buildup of a renewable energy economy.
We meet and correspond with local, state and federal legislators throughout our region. We focused initially on New Mexico political representatives, but our Strategic Directions for 2017-2020 now involve us with new contacts in Colorado and elsewhere.
We meet and correspond with business leaders, especially those who are major customers for electricity and other energy services in New Mexico and Colorado Rural Electric Cooperatives (RECs). Our business associates and partners also include solar energy systems installers based in our local area. Some of these companies have expanded statewide in New Mexico during the past few years.
We meet and correspond with principals from state and federal agencies with a focus on those agencies with jurisdiction over energy resources and siting of energy infrastructure including electricity transmission. These entities include the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Department of Energy.
We meet and correspond with representatives of many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with interests in the impacts of energy development and a transition to a renewable energy economy. Currently, we have both formal and information associations with local, regional, and national NGOs that focus on energy issues in our region and throughout our American West.
We seek out, nurture and maintain relationships with educators from local schools, The University of New Mexico – Taos (UNM-Taos), Southern Methodist University, Taos Campus (SMU-In-Taos), and the main campus of The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM. We offer lectures, field trips and mentoring for students, and encourage them to participate in our meetings and other activities.
We meet and correspond with citizens in our local area and throughout our region. We create public educational events, and participate in region-wide educational events by invitation.
We engage in education and outreach through public presentations, public events, local and regional radio, local and regional print media, social media, and targeted one-on-one or small group meetings.
We research a wide variety of topics on the science, technology, policy and economics of energy. Our members have a variety of strong expertise and experience in different elements of the ongoing energy transformation. We encourage people to work on the topics of their greatest interest.
We prepare a variety of written materials. These include letters, opinion articles, fact sheets, legislative documents, policy resolutions and other agreements, advertising, email broadcasts, presentations, Facebook posts, and web page text. We craft applications for special projects and trainings based on our initiatives. We publish technical reports and a monthly newsletter.
