John Gusdorf and Bob Bresnahan co-founded Renewable Taos in 2012. They used data on energy use and greenhouse gases emissions for the Town and County of Taos, NM to demonstrate that renewable energy was both practical and economical for Taos and vicinity. They worked through energy economics and determined that the costs being paid by Taos area citizens for fossil fuel energy could readily support a transition to clean, renewable energy.
Our fledgling organization quickly attracted a core group of people who wanted to focus on a renewable energy future. The group began meeting weekly in early 2013, and later that year achieved status as a 501(c)(3) organization under the name Renewable Taos, Inc.
Renewable Taos, Inc. produced its first Annual Report in November 2013. This document and Annual Reports for 2014-2017 communicate our organization’s intentions, accomplishments and perseverance in our Vision and Mission. Our work is further detailed in our weekly agendas, monthly newsletters, Facebook posts, action alerts, technical reports, Fact Sheets, Press Releases and other information.
With few exceptions, Renewable Taos, Inc. has met weekly from 2013-2017. A core group of 10-15 people have set and pursued an ever-evolving agenda on all aspects of renewable energy technology, economics, and policy. Currently, Renewable Taos, Inc. is supported by about 100 members, and interacts with many partner organizations throughout New Mexico and the American West.
